Bird Cage Fever!

Hey ya’ll!

Today I…decided to explore the different styles of bird cages. Are you into them? I started getting into them when my sister found this one we used at my wedding. She found it for only $7:

PLACES: Portos Cafe

I just recently visited Porto’s Cafe in Downey, CA.  I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying Porto’s amazing baked goods and cakes before, but a couple weeks ago was the first time I’ve actually been inside the restaurant.  It is so amazing!

Their potato balls are to die for!

And..their horchata smoothie is unbelievable! It’s like drinking a cake.

5 New Things I Learned About My Husband

Week #26:

1.  He LOVES peanut butter & jelly! I bought him a jar for his birthday and I discovered that he can eat a whole jar of Smuckers in 2 days! Does your significant other have a weird FOOD obsession?

2.  Why does it seem like men are better at cooking meats than women? Eddie can make a mean steak.. I think I’ve said that before. But, last night I attempted to make these pork chops, which is probably the hardest thing to mess up, and it was an utter failure. It was too dry, the rub was too cumin~y, and I managed to destroy our cast-iron skillet. When eddie got home to try it, he said, “Next time, just leave the meat to me!” So much for trying…

3. Since I’ve been pregnant, he’s been more open to cuddling with me before we go to sleep. Usually he’s very territorial with “his” side of the bed, but lately he’s been very lax. I’m definitely taking advantage of it as much as I can.

4. Our bathroom is disgusting as of late. I usually  leave it to him to clean that room because..well..he cleans it better than me. But, dang, he’s been slacking off and it’s looking pretty gross. I think the bathroom is both of our least favorite rooms to clean. Does anyone actually LIKE cleaning their bathroom?

5. We decided that we’re going to Tahiti this summer! To save, we’re going to have to stay in instead of going out, cut down on going out to eat, and no more movie theatres. This should be interesting…

Unique DIY Birthday Gift Idea!

Just wanted to share a little summary of Eddie’s birthday. It was a nice, relaxing weekend of events!

We started with a delicious, steak dinner (the one we were supposed to have on New Year’s). On Saturday morning, we picked up some baked goods over at Le Pain Quotidien in Manhattan Beach for breakfast. Then, drove over to Haven Gastropub and had lunch over there in the Orange Circle. Then, went to watch Contraband over at Century Stadium 25. We ended the night with dinner at Slater 50/50′s and watched a hockey game. If that wasn’t enough, we started Sunday off with mass and went to brunch at Acapulco on Sunday. We then went over to Redondo, walked around the beach, played a fun board game at a friend’s house, and finished it off with a vegetarian dinner at The Green Temple and crepes at Creme de la Crepe. So much fun! Are you hungry yet? Haha.

If THAT wasn’t enough, I thought I’d share with you one of the gifts I made for his birthday. It was kind of a gag gift, but I think he appreciated it!

Materials Needed:

- old Anthropologie or old gift box

- chalkboard paint

- little pieces of cardboard

- a bunch of “favorite” items of the recipient

- yarn or tape

- chalk

1) Start off with an old gift box (I used an Anthropologie gift box)

2) Paint with chalkboard paint

3) Label the top of the box

4) Fill box with a bunch of “favorite” items.

This part requires a little planning beforehand, but just have fun with it.

Eddie’s favorite candy.

Eddie also loves peanut butter! His weakness is peanut butter & jelly so we never have jelly in our kitchen. This was a real treat for him.

A little background about this one…I always use Eddie’s chapstick. I never use my own, even though I have so many. Haha.

A little background on this one… I hate replacing the toilet paper roll. Thus, this is MY favorite way to ANNOY him. :P

Eddie’s favorite fantasy, especially lately, is talking about what it would be like if we won the lottery. Well, this ticket wasn’t the big winner, but it did win us a whopping $2!

5) Gift Wrap & label!

Viola! You have yourself a fun, unique birthday gift for your significant other. :)

5 Easy Ways to Organize

I’ve kind of got the organization bug lately. All I’ve been motivated to do is organize things in my kitchen, in the bedroom, in the closet, in the bathroom, etc. It might be because I see all of these amazing storage/organization pictures on Pinterest and think to myself, “I can do that!” So, then I get inspired, and try to recreate something similar in my apt. Maybe you can see below what I’m talking about. But, here are a few things that I think could be an easy fix to make your lives a little more clean and organized:

1) Buy a cubby shelf and store things in & on it.

2) Buy some baskets to organize a linen closet or bathroom. It really helps!

3) Organize little crafts and such in clear mason jars or even decorated bins. Things are easy to locate and it’s all stored in a safe place.

4) Clear labeling! (I like to think my dad is the king of labeling, but I think it’s just because he’s a lab tech.) Anyway, make sure you label everything!

5) Bins, Bins, and More Bins!

Don’t be afraid to buy cheap plastic bins to keep things in.They are very inexpensive! It’s not as decorative, but putting things in bins makes things so much more organized. You’ll be happier with the clean look.

Quote of the Day

My husband and I can actually relate closely to this quote. When you get married or even when you’re about to have a baby, people will ALWAYS try to encourage you to do things certain ways and/or convince you on how to/how not to live your lives. Not that I don’t appreciate the suggestions, but everyone is always going to have something to say. Have you ever noticed that? Well, if you haven’t..be prepared! I want to say, take what everyone has to say with a grain of salt, and do what you know feels right. However, I was taught in ministry that sometimes we shouldn’t do what we “feel” is right all the time because you have to use your mind also. I’m not sure if I completely agree with Mrs. Roosevelt on this one, but I do know she was right about the criticism part. Don’t let people control/influence your decisions on how to live out your married vocation and on how to raise your child. Only you (and your spouse) can make decisions that are right for the both of you. No one else’s opinion matters… honestly.

Have a great day and a great week!

Live inspired.
