Serving alongside my sister…

Today I… Wanted to reflect about an amazing weekend I had serving/volunteering at our church retreat. It’s been soooo long since I’ve had the pleasure of volunteering to do anything. I used to be all about it! Anyway this past weekend my sister and I were able to do just that. Our church had one of their many confirmation retreats for the youth (high school age) and I was able to serve with her as a chaperone. It basically consisted of me setting up chairs for certain activities, passing out baby wipes when the teens made masks, and simply being present to witness the transformation of young people discovering God for the first time.

It was really refreshing to be able to witness some of the youth completely moved by some of the talks and skits. It honestly made me reflect about my own personal journey and where I was when I first found God.

The theme for the weekend was “The Lost are Found.” The highlight, for me, was being able to serve with my sister and see her in her element. She is an amazing singer and she sang with the band during the pinnacle part of the weekend, Eucharistic Adoration. Every time she sings, I cry.

20130312-075806.jpgIt is honestly inspiring to serve with her and all of these amazing young adults who sacrifice an entire weekend of their time to do this. I struggled and I even got to go home at night! A lot of them have full time jobs and have exhausting weeks at work and then still have the energy to do retreats.. Without using any technology! Boggles my mind! Anywho.. Great weekend. I thank God for the opportunity and for an amazing husband who watched our daughter while I was gone. Woo!

What we’ve been up to lately…

1) sick babe :( It’s been so sad to see her like this. She caught a running nose last week and has been trying to fight it. Good news is she finally got all of her shots at the dr’s last week. Oh! And she weighs 19lbs! (That was for you Jen and Tina)

2) sparkles!
I’ve been full force doing bridesmaid stuff for my BFF’s upcoming Italian nuptials. (So excited! We purchased our tickets already!) Of course the bride chose ‘sparkles’ as her theme, bright and bubbly, just like her! Super f

3) Party prep…
I’ve been brainstorming and slowly gathering decor for my daughter’s 1st birthday which is coming up in less than 2 months! A little sneak peek of the theme:

4) softball games
Finally made it back to watch one of my husband’s game. Ave was cheering on the sidelines…

5) dry hands galore…
Weather changes are so awful for my skin. I was doing the dishes the other day and since my hands get so so dry.. They just cracked in 3 different spots. At least it made a cool pattern.

-stand without holding anything for 5 seconds

-can almost walk

-drink from a sippy cup on her own

-pick up foods with two fingers

-eat everything

-doesn’t sleep through the night (wah!)

-play independently for over 30 minutes (woohoo!)

-laugh, smile, wine, cry

First Trip to Disney!

Today I.. Wanted to share our first trip to Disneyland! (With a baby that is…) So, I wish someone told me that going to an amusement park with a baby (under 1) is so much more work than it is fun! Lol. But you can’t beat getting in for free! I will never turn down a free Disney trip! (Thank you Anavie and Rhia for inviting us!)

(Ave was not having it when we took that picture above.)
We went with 3 other moms and 4 other kids! We basically had to stop every 15 minutes and never even made it past Main Street! At least the fried chicken was worth it!

The kids enjoyed the tiki room, Ariel’s grotto, and the carousel. The moms enjoyed eating lunch and dessert at the new Ghiradelli spot in California Adventure.

Catalina Trip (Part 2)

Alright..I had to create a separate post to share about all the food we ate on the island. Soo..yummy. We got all of our meal suggestions given to us by our lovely concierge at the hotel we stayed at, Casa Marquita. We highly recommend staying at the hotel because the staff was super friendly, accommodating, and the room was spectacular. Most hotels required a 2 night stay, but we were able to only book 1 night at this place. Ask for Stacy..she was amazing!

hotelOkay…I apologize in advance for these food pics. I can’t help myself.

First, for breakfast we stopped at Sambazon to pick up an Acai granola bowl. I had no idea what it was, but once I had a taste..I couldn’t stop. Basically, these 2 guys went to Brazil and discovered the Acai berries and it’s beneficial properties for our health. They came back and started a company! Inspiring to say the least! So, this store has a variety of items with the Acai berry and it is actually delicious! Kind of tastes like a fruity Popsicle.

I’m a sucker for smoked salmon! Whenever I see it on a menu, I always convince myself to get it.

So basically, we ate and ate..and ate some more. Time to get off my butt now!
