10 Things I Learned About Being a New Mom

Today I…would like to share about life with an almost 2-month old. I can’t believe it’s been almost 2 months already! Things have been going very smoothly. I feel very lucky to have such a good little girl. She does cry, but only when she needs something. Lately, she’s been more active during the day and loves looking at things. It must be so exciting to see the world for the first time…like, can you imagine what you were thinking the first time you saw a tree or an animal? It must have been brain candy and so visually stimulating! Eddie has also been doing so great as a dad. He’s the ultimate swaddler! He’s also really good at changing diapers! Lol. I have the best husband. :)

10 Things I Learned About Being a New Mom

Sorry for the lack of a post yesterday. To be honest, (and I hope I don’t sound like I’m complaining too much) I’ve been exhausted these last couple days. I don’t know what it is, but last night I could have sworn she woke up every hour to feed. I vaguely remember looking at the time in the middle of the night and seeing 12am, 1am, 2am, 3am…etc. I thought to myself, “Is she serious?” I guess my baby is growing and she’s experiencing growing pains. That’s all I could attribute it to because it was very odd to me. Anyhow, don’t get me wrong, I love being a mom so far! To be completely serious, I could see myself having another one already. I know…I know..I’m crazy right?!? As much as it is exhausting, and life changing..All I have to do is stare at my baby and my heart melts. But, we want to wait at least 2 years so we’ll be praying for that one.

Meanwhile, I’ve been learning a lot. Each day I learn something new about her. She is constantly changing and growing!

Happy Thursday! (Wow..I can’t believe it’s Thursday already!)

10 Things I Learned About Being a New Mom

Today I…thought I’d share my progress as of 1 month. I can’t believe how fast time flies! I’m still learning things each and every day. Please forgive me if my posts aren’t making too much sense, I’ve been in a daze lately..feeling like a zombie sometimes! Lol. I don’t even know what day of the week it is half the time.

10 Things I Learned About Being a New Mom

Today I…would like to share my progress after 2 weeks with a new baby. First of all, it’s going pretty smoothly. It’s amazing how fast time goes! Today she’s 2 weeks old already! It feels like just yesterday I was in the hospital pushing her out of me. The most valuable bonding time I’ve shared with her thus far is during the feeding sessions. It’s also been a very big blessing to have Eddie home for a week. Now that he’s back to work, I realize that when it was just us 3, we shared many special moments together. Well, here’s to a successful 2 weeks! Enjoy!

*NEW COLUMN*

Today I…would like to introduce you to a new column. It’s sort of a reflective piece again ( I like reflecting apparently) that I found helpful when other new moms posted about things. I’m not really sure what this blog is  going to become. Now that I have a child, I’ve got BABY on the mind 24/7, although I don’t want to smother all of you with my rants about this and that. I just hope to provide some comfort to all the new moms out there who may be as clueless and fearful, yet excited, like myself. I’m sort of at the transitional stage in my life where all of my friends are starting to have kids so it’s always helpful to guide each other and learn from each other. I’m all about education!

***BEGIN TANGENT***

Funny story about that last sentence by the way… During my 28hr labor (I’ll save that for another post), 2 student nurses (1 male, 1 female) asked if they could witness my labor and delivery. At first I was reluctant, I even asked my husband amidst the contractions and the discomfort, “Eddie, do you mind if another guy sees me? (referring to my female parts)” He said, “It’s up to you Melinda” and I said, “Well, I can’t say no because its for the sake of education!” Lol. (I don’t know, maybe it was just me who found that funny.Anyway…)

***END TANGENT***

Here’s a new column called “10 Things I Learned About Being A Mom.” I hope someone might find these reflections helpful. Those of you who don’t have kids, or have semi-considered it, but are not ready yet, I totally understand your reservations as well. Childbirth was no easy task, I’ll give you that much! But, they always say…once you look at the child that was made BY YOU..all the pain, fears, reservations all go out the window. I really do mean that.
